India all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer underwent successful surgery on his right shoulder at The Wellington Hospital in London on Thursday, September 24. The 2026 IPL-winning all-rounder suffered a severe pectoralis major rupture extending into his right shoulder.
The injury has ruled Iyer out of immediate domestic. He is expected to undergo several months of rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) to regain full fitness. The all-rounder was last seen in action during the Madhya Pradesh League 2026 (MP League T20).
Venkatesh Iyer Confirms Successful Shoulder Surgery
Venkatesh Iyer shared an update after undergoing surgery for a pectoralis major rupture in London. The procedure successfully repaired the damaged muscle tissue, and Iyer confirmed that he is now focused on the recovery process.
“Underwent surgery for a Pec Major Rupture of the right shoulder. Keep your blessings with me,” Iyer wrote on social media.

Doctors also inserted a Kirschner wire (K-wire) during the procedure to provide additional structural support. The wire will need to be surgically removed in the coming weeks once the initial healing and structural stability improve.
Venkatesh Iyer Last Played Competitive Cricket in June
Before his injury, Venkatesh Iyer last featured for the Indore Pink Panthers against the Gwalior Cheetahs in the Madhya Pradesh League T20 on June 23. Playing at his home ground, the Holkar Stadium in Indore, he scored an unbeaten 87 off 42 balls at a strike rate of 207.14.
Earlier in the tournament, Iyer scored 54 off 22 balls against the Malwa Stallions, including six sixes. He then contributed 32 off 21 and took 3/18 against the Bundelkhand Bulls before scoring 47 off 39 against the Ujjain Falcons.
The injury has already affected his availability for Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming domestic season. He will now spend the coming months working through rehabilitation before attempting to regain full fitness for the next domestic season and IPL 2027.
Venkatesh Iyer Turned IPL 2026 Frustration Into RCB Title Glory
Venkatesh Iyer joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru for ₹7 crore ahead of IPL 2026 but initially struggled to secure a regular place in the playing XI. He batted only twice in RCB’s first four matches and scored 12 off 15 balls against the Gujarat Titans.
RCB later used him as an Impact Player, allowing him to contribute in specific match situations. He responded with an unbeaten 29 off 15 balls against the Rajasthan Royals, helping accelerate the innings with a 20-run over.
His biggest opportunity came against the Punjab Kings in Dharamshala when Rajat Patidar was unavailable. Batting at No. 4, Iyer smashed 73 off 40 balls, including eight fours and four sixes, to earn the Player of the Match award and help RCB become the first team to qualify for the playoffs.
Opening alongside Virat Kohli, he played through an early leg injury and scored 32 off 16 balls, including 18 runs from a Kagiso Rabada over, during the IPL 2026 final against Gujarat Titans.
