Shreyas Iyer unhappy after India's loss: The India National Cricket Team faced the Ireland National Cricket Team in the second and final T20I match at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, Belfast, Ireland. Lorcan Tucker’s side came in the match after creating history in the first game, beating India for the first time across formats. Tucker’s side creates history, beats India by one run, and seals the series 2-0.
Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first, as India made two changes from their loss, with two debutants, Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav getting their maiden T20I caps, but the most anticipated Vaibhav Sooryavanshi debut did not happen as he had to wait for his senior team debut. Ireland played the same team from their win in the first match.
Prince Yadav had a dream debut
After being asked to bat first, Ireland were off to a good start, but Harshit Rana got the breakthrough as he picked Tim Tector for just five runs. Arshdeep Singh picked the dangerous-looking Ross Adair for 16 runs. Tucker also did not cause many problems and was out for 15. Then, a solid partnership from Harry Tector and Ben Calitz scored 65 runs off 43 deliveries.
Calitz was back for 37 runs, and Shivam Dube picked the wicket, and he also dismissed Gareth Delany for a golden duck. After the two wickets, rain came down hard right ahead of the final over of the first innings of Ireland side. Harry Tector went back for 53 runs as Ireland finished off with 154/8. Prince Yadav shone on debut as he picked 3/22 in his four overs.
Shreyas Iyer fails with the bat again
India had the worst possible start, as they lost Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma in the first over, with Jai Moondra picking up the wickets in the first over, putting the visitors on the back foot. Ishan Kishan was also back after a horrible mix-up with vice-captain Tilak Varma. After that, Tilak and Axar Patel stitched a small partnership of 39 runs.
Tilak Varma smacked a fifty as he scored 56 runs, and some runs from Shivam Dube scored 20 runs. And a fiery knock of 21 runs from Harshit Rana kept the Men in Blue in the match, but Ireland created history, beating India for the first time in a T20I series after three years. Shreyas Iyer was also out cheaply on 10 runs.
"It’s definitely not a great series"- Shreyas Iyer after India's loss
Shreyas Iyer admitted that it was not a good series for India and credited Ireland for thoroughly outplaying his side with better execution and understanding of the conditions. He felt India's bowlers performed well, but the batting unit failed to assess the pitch and also to rotate the strikes.
"It’s definitely not a great series, honestly speaking, but kudos to them, the way they played. Ireland team, I think they showed the professionalism and definitely had a tremendous idea about how the wicket was going to play and the field work there was phenomenal. So a comprehensive win to them and congratulations."
"[On whether his team showed the cricket smarts, learning and adaptability he had spoken about after the first game] Absolutely. I feel the bowlers, they were phenomenal in terms of their executions today. But we fell a bit short in our batting. We were, we fell a bit short in terms of analyzing how the wicket is going to play and also converting singles into twos."
"Has his own set of ideas and plans"- Shreyas Iyer praised Prince Yadav
Shreyas Iyer also praised debutant Prince for carrying his IPL confidence into international cricket and appreciated Suryansh's attitude despite it being his first game, expressing confidence that the youngster would learn from the experience.
"I think they definitely outplayed us in that department. [On the debutants] Definitely, as I mentioned earlier, that he’s (Prince) got great experience in the IPL and he carries that momentum over here as well. He has his own set of ideas and plans when it comes down to the ball."
Shreyas Iyer concluded saying, "But the attitude and approach which he had and also Suryansh, I mean it was his first game, but yeah, he’outside the leg-stump definitely learn from this. [Thank you for coming to Ireland and] Thank you so much. It’s an honor and a pleasure to be here."
