Pat Cummins, the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper, has returned to lead his side in the IPL and has begun proceedings with a win in his very first game as his team chased a 228-run total with ease.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad might not have had the best of starts to the season, as they leaked runs when they failed to defend a massive total against the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
They had then lost three of their first four matches and were having an unconvincing season. With their batters hitting form, Ishan Kishan, as the stand-in skipper, guided them to three victories in a row before the clash against the Royals.
Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, had a promising start to the season with four wins early on in the season. The Royals have been on a losing streak since they returned to their original home ground at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's scintillating knock took RR off to a flyer
Rajasthan Royals started the season on a commanding note, while on the other hand, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has never let the form slide from his bat. He has been in stunning touch, while he has also reached the second-highest spot in the Orange Cap leaderboard.
With a 36-ball hundred, Sooryavanshi got the Royals off to a flyer, and they piled on to a 200+ total. However, despite their having pulled off a stunning performance with the bat, with Dhruv Jurel and Donovan Ferreira in supporting roles, SRH restricted them to a score less than 230.
Pat Cummins, the returning skipper, bowled a splendid spell as he picked a wicket and gave away runs at an economy of just 7 in a match where bowlers were thrashed to all parts of the ground.
Abhishek Sharma's and Ishan Kishan's spectacular knocks handed SRH the fourth win of the season
In the SRH innings where they chased 229 runs, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan acted as the main partnership holders after Travis Head's dismissal. Abhishek scored his third half-century in the season and guided the team to a spectacular start.
Ishan Kishan, on the other hand, went on to score 74 runs while striking at over 200. After his dismissal, Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a quickfire 36 runs alongside Heinrich Klaasen in a fifty-run partnership, which took them very close to the chase.
SRH sealed their fourth win in a row, and this was their first win of the season under the leadership of the legendary Australian skipper Pat Cummins.
"Really happy." Pat Cummins on winning his first game of the season
Pat Cummins helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to a win over the Rajasthan Royals that took them past the Royals in the IPL points table in the third position. This chase became the fourth-highest chase in the history of the IPL.
Pat Cummins said, "Really happy. You are never quite sure how it is going to come out in the first game. Praful can bounce back and have an impact on the game. Ishan led them beautifully. Harshal and Jaydev started for us as well. Ishan and Abhishek eat into the target pretty early. Very calm and confident group, really good win.
