MS Dhoni, the legendary wicket-keeper, has been missed by the Chennai Super Kings on multiple occasions this season, and finally he is most likely to return for the Men in Yellow before their upcoming game against the Mumbai Indians at Chepauk.
Chennai Super Kings could not hold on to their winning streak in the competition, as they have now lost their game against the Gujarat Titans despite the captain returning to good form with the bat. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored runs finally but could not hand his team the score they needed to intimidate the Titans.
The Chennai team has now skipped one position to the 6th position in the points table after a loss to the Gujarat Titans, who, with two points, have now moved to the fifth position in that points table.
MS Dhoni suffered another injury scare ahead of their game against GT
As CSK continues to miss the services of their former skipper, MS Dhoni, the head coach, Stephen Fleming, has updated, saying that the team management is waiting to hear from the veteran cricketer. Previously, Eric Simmons had also updated that the decision is entirely to be made by Dhoni himself.
He has been part of the CSK team in the nets and has trained with them before the start of their matches against MI and SRH at Mumbai and Hyderabad. However, he has not featured in any of the games.
Despite a long training session, Dhoni's fitness might have taken a blow as a result of which he decided to stay in the team hotel and did not arrive in the CSK dugout, which has been the case in most of the season for the Super Kings.
Stephen Fleming updates on MS Dhoni's comeback for CSK
Asked about an update on Dhoni’s condition, Fleming said Dhoni is progressing well. “The calf is a tough one. If he takes off and rips the calf again, then he will be gone. So we pushed it early.
"In a warm-up game, he tweaked it again; it’s my understanding. And since then, he has been just working hard to get some movement into it. But there was a setback. So it has taken longer than we thought," he said.
The CSK coach added, "But look, he’s the guy on this one. And he’s working hard with the physio and doing all the rehab. We’re just waiting for the word, really. But all I can keep saying is stop making light of this. He is progressing and doing everything.”
Urvil Patel flops on return to CSK playing XI
It was revealed that Chennai Super Kings veteran MS Dhoni is not willing to force himself into the combination after he found the youngsters getting some form in this edition of the competition.
However, seeing the poor form from Kartik Sharma despite repeated opportunities for the youngster and the recent struggles for them in the middle order, with Sarfaraz Khan losing form in recent games and Urvil Patel also missing out on his first outing, Dhoni might be rather needed to be back in the mix.
