The runners-up of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, New Zealand, are hosting South Africa for a five-match T20I series. The Kiwis played an amazing brand of cricket in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, qualifying for the final after five years, beating the Proteas in the semi-final, and ultimately losing to India.
The Black Caps made two sides for this tour, hosting the Proteas with a relatively new side. Though their captain, Mitchell Santner, has been there for the first three T20Is, Tom Latham will take charge for the last two T20Is.
The hosts lost the first T20I by 7 wickets as South Africa chased down the target of just 91 runs in 16.4 overs. The Kiwis will look to come back in the 2nd T20I, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 17. The majority of the T20 World Cup players have been rested, as some of them will be joining in the Indian Premier League in a few weeks.

NZ vs SA 2nd T20I Key Battles:
Devon Conway vs Gerald Coetzee
Devon Conway has not found his form. The Southpaw was dismissed cheaply in the first T20I match. He lost his place on the main side and is still struggling to score runs. Conway failed in the T20I series against India despite getting chances.
Gerald Coetzee would be looking for early wickets in the second game as well, just like he did in the first game. The speedster has been one of the most experienced pacers in the line-up at present. His battle with Conway will continue as he picked the batter's wicket in the first game.
Jason Smith vs Lockie Ferguson
Jason Smith has one of the most improved batters for South Africa; his power hitting improved, and he showcased it in the SA 20. This has been the reason he was also a part of the South Africa squad for the T20 World Cup. However, he did not have a good outing in the first T20I game. His contest with Lockie Ferguson will be an interesting one.
Bevon Jacobs vs Keshav Maharaj
Bevon Jacobs has been a hard-hitting middle-order batter for the Kiwis. He has struck over 150 and has played 6 T20Is for the Black Caps, though his average has been poor in international cricket; however, he has been a good player of T20 cricket, scoring seven fifties in the format.
Keshav Maharaj, who has been appointed as the captain, will be a good matchup against Jacobs. The experienced campaigner will be looking to pick up the wickets of Jacobs in the middle overs so that he does not hurt the visiting side with his power hitting.
